Renting a House versus an Apartment

Renting a home or apartment

Now that you have decided it is time to rent another place, which will you choose: a house or an apartment?

For many people, buying a home is not an option at this point in their lives. Whether they have an unstable job, like to move around, or average credit, renting may be their only option. So the choices are narrowed down to renting an apartment. But what about renting a house instead? Let’s examine the choices and see which one is right for you.

Compare the Utility

While the right between a home and an apartment might be comparable, the utilities may be vastly different. In most instances, apartments will have lower utility bills because of their smaller size. Apartments usually feature thicker walls that are heavily insulated to keep noise from traveling between apartments and to keep damage to a minimum in the event of a fire. These thicker walls allow heating and cooling to stay within your apartment longer.

The Amenities

Each of these options have different amenities that cater to different lifestyles. If you lead an active lifestyle an apartment with a pool and gym might be the best option for you. But house rentals are more likely to have a larger yard or garages that are perfect for your family. If you have a family, a dog, or several cars, a house might be your best option.

Privacy

While apartments do have good sound-proofing, there is no real way to completely keep the noise out of your apartment. Noisy neighbors can be a headache when they surround you. But when you live in a home, you are more secluded and have a house more suited to your needs.

Maintenance

One of the things most people love about renting is the low maintenance factor. They do not have to do the general maintenance of the home. But there is some maintenance involved in renting a house. Depending on your rental agreement, you may have to shovel the walkways, mow the lawn, maintain the gardens, and perform general upkeep on the house. In an apartment, everything is taken care of for you.

From maintaining the property to the monthly costs, there are many differences between renting a house and renting an apartment. So which option will you choose? For more information on renting your next home, call Clagett Enterprises today!
