When downsizing to a large two-bedroom home to a smaller one-bedroom, it can be hard to reconfigure the space of your new home. But instead of selling all of your large pieces of furniture and getting rid of your memories, there are some stylish ways to set up your new small space you should think about.
Make it Feel Larger
I know this one sounds a little rough but bear with us. There are some things you can do to make a room feel larger. One of these things is to opt for mirrors. No one likes to have bare walls so instead of finding pieces of art to hang up, get some mirrors in different shapes and sizes. Not only will this brighten up the space, but it will also make it feel more spacious. The next step is to dress up your windows using curtains. Instead of hanging the curtains directly on top of the window frame, go higher for a longer effect. Your drapes will make the room feel longer and larger.
Many people opt for an area rug when choosing flooring for their home. But in reality, wall-to-wall carpet will actually make your home feel much more spacious. If you don’t want wall-to-wall opt for a large area rug that is about four inches away from the wall. Rugs will not only absorb noise, a plus in apartment living, but it will also make your space feel warm and inviting.
When living in a small space, things that can pull double duty are an absolute MUST. For instance, many jobs offer employees the opportunity to work from home. If you need a work station, put your desk next to your bed and have it double as a bedside table. If your home isn’t large enough for a dining room table, put a table in the kitchen for a table to double as a prep station and eating station. These elements can help save space and will be everything you wanted in a home.
There are many things you can do to make your new house feel like home again. Think outside the box and your space will feel like your own in no time!
